The new tool: Gouldian Finch Genetics © 2025, allows you to calculate the color combinations of offspring for all known mutations of the Gouldian Finch. It also gives you the ability to adopt the genetic characteristics of an offspring in place of the corresponding parent. With this, you can reach a target result through a series of Calculation Cycles, thus simulating the steps of the breeding process to achieve a goal in your breeding efforts.

 

The Gouldian Finch Genetics tool enables you to calculate the color combinations of offspring based on the color combination of the parent birds you select.

 

To ensure the most reliable results, you must accurately record the genetic information for each parent bird. Initially, especially for birds whose genetic background is unknown, the description can be based only on external color characteristics (phenotype, e.g., Red Head). If additional information (genotype) is available, we can be more precise (e.g., Red / Black Head).

 

This tool is free, and users can select the genetic traits for both the female and male parent birds. Its purpose is to provide breeders with immediate information about the expected outcomes.

 

Users of the BIRDin application (Breeding Management System) have the ability to enter this specific information into each bird's Profile. This way, the information for each bird is stored in the system once and can be used for calculating the color combinations of the offspring, for example, through the Couple Profile. In the BIRDin system, genetics can be utilized in many ways, enabling breeders to maximize the potential of their breeding birds.
